The average adult reads at approximately 238 words per minute (WPM), though this varies depending on the complexity of the material, the reader's familiarity with the subject, and individual reading habits. Technical or academic content is typically read more slowly (150 to 200 WPM), whilst light fiction or familiar topics can be read at 300 WPM or faster.
